I'm so glad it was helpful, Cathy, and thank you for letting me know. I really am not sure how many people realize these aspects of essential oils, but they are so standard in any DIY recipe for personal care that I finally couldn't keep quiet with it any more. I am sure essential oils have valid uses in the hands of qualified healers, but they really are not necessary in our day to day DIY stuff and I feel as though clever marketers are just making use of our expectation for fragrance and transferring us over from synthetic fragrances to essential oils.

Wow! Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I came into contact with essential oils many years ago, when I was a receptionist for a masseuse who used them. She had a burner going in at the entrance door, which was lovely for clients who came in, but she did tell me that she found them toxic for herself with over-use. It never occurred to me that it was big business or that they were using endangered plants. You make some very good points and, although I don't use essential oils much, I will now be using them even less.
