In reply to Erica.

Thanks for commenting, Erica! I'm hoping this little pond and future ones at our place will bring lots of wildlife too, and help tip the balance between cane toads (introduced and invasive) and frogs in our garden areas (since the kids will be patrolling to remove cane toad eggs before they hatch).

Good luck with pond 3 and the wild rice project!

In reply to Brett.

You're welcome, Brett, I'm glad you like the ideas.

I'd hope that if council got on your landlord's back they wouldn't allow him to use herbicide if this pond drains into others and eventually into a big dam like that. Yuck indeed!

Hi Kate, I think that you have some great ideas there. Thankyou!
The place where I am living at the moment has a big pond (approx 50m x 20m), although it's not rectangular. It's currently invested with a weed, water hyacinth. It's part of a series of ponds that ultimately drains into Ewen Maddock Dam, Landsborough. I doubt that I'll be staying here long term, but if I was I would definitely like to implement some of your ideas, re food plants and habitat for native frogs and fish. First I would need to get rid of all the weeds, which is a massive job. The landlord isn't keen to help but if council gets on his back he'll just spray it with herbicide. Yuck! Anyway, good luck with your project :)
